Blue Mountains

               The Blue Mountains is a mountain range in eastern Jamaica, accessible through a walking track. From it, views of the north and south of the island can be seen. It extends for about 30 miles. It starts from Stony Hill, about nine miles north of Kingston, the capital of Jamaica, and runs eastward towards the Caribbean Sea. The Blue Mountains dominate the eastern third of Jamaica. The highest point is called Blue Mountain Peak and it’s 7,402 feet or 2,256 meters. All around, the Blue Mountains are thickly layered with tree ferns. The range is covered in a variety of vegetation which includes forest, plant forests, and other wildlife.

The mountains experience a tropical climate with warm temperatures all year round. In the winter, the temperatures get as low as 45°F (7°C), and in the summer, the temperatures rise to as high as 74°F (23°C). The wildlife around the range includes different kinds of birds, wildhogs, iguanas, and other rodents. The Blue Mountains' cool climate, misty atmosphere, and rich soil are ideal for coffee cultivation. Today, the Blue Mountains have a famous coffee along with stunning sandstone cliffs and cascading waterfalls, making it a world class destination for hiking, scenic lookouts, and exploration.
